The School of Architecture at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University partner to offer a dual degree opportunity that leads to an accredited Doctor of Architecture in the United States and, optionally, a Master of Architecture in China. The Global Track is a three-year, 90-credit option within the UH Mānoa DArch program, with coursework in both countries.

UH Mānoa is the flagship campus of the University of Hawaiʻi System, with particular strength in Hawaiian, Pacific, and Asian studies. The School of Architecture offers the only Doctor of Architecture accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, the sole agency authorized to accredit professional architecture degrees in the United States. The DArch is STEM-designated, which allows international graduates on F-1 visas to apply for up to three years of Optional Practical Training.

Tongji University in Shanghai is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China, and was ranked 12th in the world for Architecture and Built Environment in the 2026 QS subject rankings. Its College of Architecture and Urban Planning is the leading destination for students pursuing a professional architecture degree in China. Through the partnership, Global Track students may earn either a Master of Architecture accredited by the National Board of Architectural Accreditation of China or a Master of Engineering in Architectural Design and Theory. The Tongji degree is optional and is not required to continue in the UH Mānoa DArch.

For the year-by-year structure, see the Program page.

Our goal is not only to educate capable designers, but to help develop thoughtful, adaptable, and engaged professionals prepared to contribute wherever their careers take them.
